in louisiana after a train carrying flammable liquids ran off the track and started to leak. it happened yesterday afternoon about 60 miles west of baton rouge. a spokeswoman for the train company says one of the cars was leaking sodium hydroxide. that's a highly toxic substance. it can be deadly if it's inhaled in large amounts. another car carrying lye. it causes chemical burns to skin and blindness in it comes in contact with your eyes. police say the leaks are now contained. two people on board the train at the time of the crash and engineer and a conductor both are reportedly okay. a program designed to help our country's wounded warriors is also lining the pockets of liars and frauds. that's the finding of a government watchdog who report that hundreds of millions of dollars goes to people who don't qualify for it in the first place. the issue got heated back in june during a hearing on the largest irs contract ever awarded. half a billion dollars to go to the so-called disabled vet. his injury? he says he twisted his ankle at a military prep school almost 30 years ago. in congress

today, in louisiana a hostage standoff turned deadly overnight. around noon yesterday a man took three employees hostage at the tensas state branch in saint joseph. releasing one nine hours later. after midnight the suspect shot the remaining two hostages. police returned gunfire killing the suspect. one of the two hostages wounded in the standoff we have learned has died. >>> and in california, someone claiming to be hannah anderson, the 16-year-old kidnapped survivor, is speaking out on social media websites about her ordeal. posts from the website details her abduction by james dimaggio. in one post this person claims that james dimaggio had a gun and threatened to kill her and anyone who ofrd to help. when asked if she was glad he was dead, she said, absolutely. neither hannah nor the an der sons have confirmed that it is hannah anderson. this is "andrea mitchell reports" on msnbc and we're going to be right back. people together. today, we'd like people to come together on something that concerns all of us. obesity. and as the nation's leading beverage company, we can play an impo

bill came up, we worked with our allies, mary landrieu of louisiana and lindsey graham of south carolina and the house side, jim moran of virginia and bill young of florida to have language to stipulate that usda could not spend any of its dollars setting up an inspections program for horse slaughter for human consumption. we won the amendments but the spending bill is not passed because congress is not doing its job on a reliable basis. we don't know when that was going to pass but usda surprisingly -- with that looming, with that spending ban looming and the prospect of the plants operating for two months, three months at the longest, basically said okay, we're going to grant you inspection permits. bill, this is even more strange because the administration in its 2014 budget request on agricultural spending urged a defund of the horse slaughter plant. so i think the lawyers got ahold of this and they took this highly legalistic view that well, we don't support horse slaughter but the current law says it is okay. so we're just going to allow this. >> bill: when i read that, i
